The former Parow High School learner and now well-known actress, Kim Syster is currently part of a stellar cast South African actors who feature in a brand-new movie, Frankie en Felipé.

In the role of Kim Fortuin, she co-stars with well-known actors the late Bradley Olivier and Solomon Cupido, both of whom were writers and producers of the movie. Zane Meas (7de Laan) also stars in the movie, directed by Marvin-Lee Beukes.

Frankie en Felipé also stars Bianca Flanders, Ilse Klink, Shimmy Isaacs, Danny Ross, Lee-Ann van Rooi, Brendon Daniels and Melissa de Vries-Joseph.

Syster told TygerBurger that working on the production was “amazing, and fun”.

A dream come true

“I looked forward to coming to the set because I just had the most amazing bosses, Solomon Cupido and Bradley Olivier. They made it so much fun to work with them, and there was so much mutual respect. Being the producers, and Bradley being a friend of mine, makes me very proud of what they have accomplished with this, because it has been quite a few years in the making, for about five years.

“I remember Bradley still speaking to me about this when we were working together on Binnelanders back in 2018. He was telling me about this project that he and Solomon were busy with.

“They were going out and pitching, and trying to get funds, so I know about this process, and for it finally to be here is surreal and, in a sense for me, a dream come true, to be able to work with them, and the fact that it was accomplished, is mind-blowing. I am very proud.”

The local and international actress, who is married with a son, and lives on the Atlantic Seaboard, has starred in many other productions since graduating from the School of Media and Creative Arts at City Varsity with a diploma in professional acting.

She said: “I am currently busy with Arendsvlei on kykNet & Kie and did some international movies for Disney, one of which came out last year, called Darby and the Dead. I also did a movie called Deep Blue Sea 2, which was amazing because I am such a fan of the original.”

Syster made her acting debut in Universal Studio’s Death Race 3: Inferno, an international feature film. Locally she has had starring roles in television and film, in productions such as Sterlopers, Erfsondes, Nul is nie niks nie, as well as Skemerdans. Her breakthrough role was as the feisty Dr Jax Davids in Binnelanders.

Keep pushing

Kim also shared some advice with young upcoming actresses and actors.

“Keep pushing. It can be tough at times, because you get so many ‘nos’, but just have to keep pushing until you get a ‘yes’.

“Get as much experience in this industry, because I have found I have learnt so much more by being on set.”

Frankie en Felipé was released in cinemas across the country on 23 February.
