To celebrate Freedom Day, community members involved with YQ4Hope put on their exercise gear and hit the floor for 27-minute long fitness challenges on Wednesday morning.
The NPO serves as the charity leg of YQ Holdings in Brackenfell Industria.
This, says events coordinator Vivienne Pretorius, was to commemorate the day 27 years ago when Freedom Day was first celebrated.
Fitness instructor Vanessa Abrahams lead the way, while young DJ Sophia provided funky tunes.
Sophia, at only eight years old, is the youngest female DJ in Cape Town.
“This day is all about freedom and coming together and having fun as a community,” says Pretorius.
All the proceeds for the day will be ploughed back into the community.
The NPO regularly plans events in aid of several charities, one being the Tygerberg Children’s Hospital Trust to whom it recently donated 1 000 nappies.
“We aim to create a platform where local NPO’s and donators can come together for the good of our communities.
In addition to their other projects YQ4 regularly participates in gymkhana races at Killarney Raceway.
“All the proceeds of ticket sales on these days are used to fund bursaries for children who are interested in motor sport,” says Pretorius.
