Firefighters contain vegetation fire along Adam Tas Avenue in Bothasig

Firefighters from the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services attended to a vegetation fire along Adam Tas Avenue in Bothasig this week.

District Watch, a local private security company, shared details of the incident online, indicating that the swift response by firefighters prevented its spread. The fire was reported on after being spotted by one of their armed response officers.

Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Services, confirmed the incident was reported at 15:50 on Wednesday 21 January. He said a crew from Epping Fire Station attended to the incident and by 16:55 the fire was extinguished.

“No property was damaged and the cause of the fire is unknown,” he said.

According to District Watch some of its officers, along with members of the public, neighbourhood watch and another security company assisted in containing the fire using available equipment until emergency services arrived. Traffic services were also on the scene and the roadway was temporarily closed to ensure the safety of the public.

The fire was successfully extinguished and the roadway reopened once the area was declared safe, the company said.
