The City of Cape Town has handed over keys to 26 more families at the Elsies River Florida housing project.

Six sites

The handover forms part of the broader Elsies River Infill Housing Project, which will ultimately provide homes to 724 qualifying beneficiaries and their families across six sites. The 26 families received the keys to their new homes at the Florida site, bringing them one step closer to the security, dignity and stability of home ownership.

The project spans six sites across the community, with the largest comprising 303 housing opportunities and the smallest nine. The development reflects the City’s commitment to building homes within established communities, close to public transport, schools, services and economic opportunities.

No disruptions

Pophaim says the City will not allow disruptions to steal the dreams of deserving families. “For these 26 families, today is about far more than receiving a set of keys. It is about opening the door to a new chapter of security, dignity and opportunity. Behind every door is a family with a story, a journey and a dream of finally having a place to call their own,” he says. “This project has faced its fair share of challenges, but our commitment to the people of Elsies River has never wavered. We will not allow disruptions, intimidation or attempts to manipulate housing allocations to steal the dreams of deserving families. Those who seek to disrupt housing delivery may make the headlines, but it is the families receiving their keys who represent the real story of progress.”

Residents are encouraged to report suspected unlawful activity or interference with housing projects through the City’s Public Emergency Communication Centre on 021 480 7700.
