Electrifying, multi-award-winning trumpeter, singer and composer Mandisi Dyantyis joins the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra for A Symphonic Celebration — two concerts on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 July at 20:00 at Artscape.
Dyantyis blends jazz with Western classical and African indigenous music.
His sold-out Kirstenbosch concert earlier this year and his previous appearance with the CPO in a gala had audiences on their feet.
“Presenting an artist like Mandisi fits perfectly with the CPO’s mission to be an orchestra for all,” says CEO Louis Heyneman.
“We know many in our audience will appreciate being introduced to what may be a new genre of exceptional music. It’s also a first for him — being accompanied by the country’s foremost orchestra in his own concert, with full symphonic backing.”
The concerts will feature some of his most beloved songs, including “Somandla”, “Isigidimi” and “Cwaka”.
Dyantyis began playing trumpet at the age of eight. While studying for a BA Hons in Jazz Studies, he joined the UCT Big Band.

He has since earned an MMus with distinction, released two acclaimed albums, and worked with icons like Jimmy Dludlu, the Abdullah Ibrahim Big Band, and Robbie Jansen.
He toured globally with the Isango Ensemble Theatre Company and was nominated for an NAACP Award in Los Angeles. In 2010, he became Artist in Residence at New York University’s Drama School.
In 2022, he featured in MultiChoice’s Origins campaign and co-curated projects with visual artist Nelson Makamo at Harvard. He composed music for the documentary Rise: The Siya Kolisi Story, and Nina: By Whatever Means, a ballet inspired by Nina Simone.
Tickets are available at Artscape Dial-A-Seat on 021 421 7695 and at Webtickets.
