The Department of Social Development took hands as a sign of solidarity with women who fell victim to abuse and violence in a premier initiative together with the provincial minister of social development.
The Metro North regional office and all offices in the Department of Social Development as per directive from the provincial social development minister, Sharna Fernandez, at noon on 1 August outside their workplaces formed a human chain in solidarity with vulnerable and at-risk women to empower women and to show that they do render support to those affected by gender-based violence.
According to Zona Louw from the department, about 100 staff members participated.
Staff members were seen with posters reading “No to women abuse”, and “End GBV now”.
The regional office is situated in Goodwood and serves the Goodwood and Elsies River areas along with Bellville, Langa, Cape Town, Atlantis, Delft and Milnerton.
