“The launch of the film His Plan was beyond words,” Neil Oortman, producer of the film, says.
This documentary film that was launched on 3 March tells the story of Oortman’s life growing up in Elsies River and creates awareness about substance abuse and domestic violence.
“I cannot describe it in words, the atmosphere was full of expectation and excitement.”
According to Oortman the little young actors were so excited to see themselves on the big screen and looked like Hollywood stars.
“The people of Cape Town supported us well, we had a full house in the Cinecentre,” Oortman says.
He says it was overcrowded and they want to thank all the old and young people of Cape Town.
“As the producer, I just saw that there is a bigger plan with our own people’s stories that need to be done.”
CineCentre
A spokesperson for CineCentre says they want to provide a platform for local content, in support of the South African film industry.
This in addition to the scourge of gender-based violence that not only faces South Africa, but the world to different degrees.
“We hope that by us facilitating such a screening it contributes to creating further awareness and we are hopeful that through such a screening, we are in our little way able to contribute to empowering victims with the wish that someday this will be eradicated from society,” CineCentre’s spokesperson says.
Elouise Matthys, GrandWest PR and Promotions Manager, says:
“GrandWest supports all efforts to create greater awareness about gender based violence and we applaud efforts to change such behaviour in society.”
Life story is an inspiration
Jade Green from Eerste River, one of the main role players in the film, says it was very challenging and also good at the same time to play in this film.
“I enjoyed being on set and playing my role, this film gave me more hope in life and it also inspired me,” Green says.
“I could take many things from it and I’ve also learnt a lot by being on set and seeing the rest of the cast bringing their roles to action and just living in it.”
What stood out the most for Green was the way Oortman changed his life through all his difficulties, struggles and circumstances.
Despite all of that he pushed through, worked hard, sacrificed and also he never lost his faith in God.
According to Oortman, they are already taking this film to churches, schools and youth centres.
