The incident during which a frail, elderly lady was recently attacked in a Durbanville supermarket is unacceptable.
She was waiting in the line to pay when a big, grown-up man, allegedly autistic, lashed out and hit her.
He punched her so hard that her cheekbone and nose was fractured and serious damage done to her eyes. She had to undergo an operation in Tygerberg Hospital last week, where during a four-hour long operation, the damage to her eyes was corrected.
Other than the physical discomfort and pain, she was shocked and traumatised.
After the incident, the staff brought a chair for her to sit on and offered her water to drink. They called her son to fetch her.
The incident showed clearly on the footage taken at the shop. It was such an unfortunate situation. Should this man be left on his own in a shop?
To date, nobody from the retailer has reached out to her, just to show compassion. Not a call, or anything to show that they care about their customers. One would at least expect some gesture of courtesy towards her.
