It is not every day that a school can claim to have the “best in the world” walking its hallways, but El Shaddai Christian School in Durbanville is celebrating just that.
Following the release of the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards for the June and November 2025 exam cycles, El Shaddai Christian School is celebrating a suite of results that place their students at the top of international education.
The highlight of this year’s results is the prestigious first-place “Top in the World” award — earned not once, but twice.
Top in the World
Emily de Reuck secured the Top in the World position for AS Level English Language and Literature and Helena de Jongh a joint Top in the World for AS Level Mathematics.
“To put this in perspective, these students outperformed thousands of candidates across 40 countries, proving that El Shaddai Christian School is more than capable of competing on the global stage,” said Kathrine Marais, high school deputy head and head of high school academics.
Top in South Africa
The accolades don’t stop at the global level. Gabriella Stead earned Top in South Africa for her performance in the Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) exams in English Literature, making her the highest-achieving student in South Africa for that subject.
Additionally, Sven Beyer received a High Achievement award for IGCSE Foreign Language German.
“Interestingly, German is not officially offered at El Shaddai, making Sven’s achievement a remarkable testament to his personal dedication,” said Marais.
Immense pride
Iain Guthrie, principal of El Shaddai Christian School, has expressed immense pride in these learners — attributing the success to a combination of student grit, parental support and exceptional staff and level of teaching.
“We celebrate the incredible achievements of our learners, and we are also grateful to our teachers who have prepared these students for the examinations and all the other teachers at our school who have inspired them throughout their school pathway.”As these students move forward, they carry with them more than just certificates; they carry the proof that with the right guidance and hard work, the sky is the limit!” Guthrie said.
