Eight Protea Heights streets hit by power outages as City repairs theft and vandalism damage

Residents across eight streets in Protea Heights have been left without electricity today as City of Cape Town crews conduct planned maintenance work to repair damage previously caused by cable theft, vandalism, and illegal connections.

The widespread power outages, affecting Station Street, Joubert Street, Vergenoeg Street, Zinnia Street, Schubert Street, Straus Street, Chopin Street, and Helling Street today, have prompted planned maintenance operations to address what the City describes as ongoing criminal damage to essential electrical equipment. While municipal teams work to restore power throughout the day, restoration times remain uncertain due to safety concerns that may require law enforcement escorts in surrounding areas.

The City of Cape Town apologised for the inconvenience while their teams attended to the work.

The City stated that the list is updated as information is received. If an area isn’t included, it doesn’t mean teams aren’t aware of it.
