A 29-year-old man is due to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court today after being arrested on a charge of murder after his girlfriend (37) was found dead in her bed in Greenville in Fisantekraal, outside Durbanville, on Sunday evening at 22:30.

According to Durbanville police spokesperson Capt Marchell Rhode, the suspect told police he arrived home in Leucadendron Street after load shedding and found his girlfriend with stab wounds to the side of her body and left leg.

She was declared dead on the scene.

On Monday, a group of about 70 residents protested outside the suspect’s mother’s house, where he was staying now, demanding answers about the woman’s death.

According to Rhode, the police took the suspect away to the police station.

“With further investigation by the detective assigned to the case, and after interviewing the boyfriend, it was discovered that he and the deceased had an argument that same night and that he stabbed his girlfriend inside their house where she died,” Rhode says.

It is not yet known if the suspect has been released on bail.
