Durbanville police are on the hunt for three unknown men who robbed the Checkers in Durbanville of R350 000 in cash, which included R80 000 in Sassa grant payments earlier today (Monday).

According to Durbanville police spokesperson Cpt Marchell Rhode, the three suspects entered the store via the staff room’s entrance.

“They threatened the security guards with firearms and forced them to take them to the cash room. Inside the cash room, they threatened everyone and demanded the cash from the safe. The suspects took bags of All Pay money of R80 000 and Checkers money of R270 000 cash from the safe,” said Rhode, who added that no shots were fired and no people were injured.

“The suspects fled the scene with the cash. Victim support assistance was given to the Checkers staff. At this stage, no suspects have been arrested.”
