What would you do if you can watch a musical concert and help people less fortunate at the same time?
Bakuphe is a non-profit organisation that is organising a blanket drive with a difference. They are hosting a concert at which you gain entrance by donating a blanket.
Christoffel Maneville, the founder of the organisation, says they started the blanket drive initiative in 2019.
“We donated the blankets to the Red Cross and The Haven Children’s Homes and to people living on the street. In 2020 and 2021 we extended the initiative and provided food and blankets to people in Stellenbosch, Bellville, Kuils River and Freedom Farm Belhar, amongst others,” says Maneville.
According to Maneville they cannot stop now.
“This will be our fourth year doing this and we simply say each one reaches one to keep someone’s life warm this winter. We want to motivate communities and businesses as well as religious leaders to help us to wrap a blanket of love over someone who needs it the most. We know a blanket is not all that they need and although we can’t give them shelter, we can give them a blanket to keep warm at least,” says Maneville.
The concert will be held on 3 June at Shammah Ministries in Belhar (20 Organ Street) with artists like Che-V. Eddy Strings, Jason Carolus and Ricky.
