A dog named Grace is recovering under veterinary care after being struck by a bullet during a drive-by shooting in Manenberg, Cape Town.
The dog, who was caught in the crossfire of gang violence, was surrendered by her owners following the shooting and taken into the care of the Cape of Good Hope SPCA.
According to the SPCA, Grace received veterinary attention for her gunshot wound, and X-rays were taken to assess the extent of her injuries. Despite the bullet passing through her body, it appears to have missed her vital organs and other critical structures.
The organisation said Grace’s prognosis was good and that she was recovering under veterinary supervision.

Innocent victim of gang violence
The SPCA described Grace as a gentle dog who had become an unintended victim of violence in the community.
According to the SPCA, her case highlights the risks that gang-related shootings pose not only to those directly involved in criminal activity, but also to innocent residents, children and animals caught in the crossfire.
The organisation named the dog Grace as a symbol of the second chance at life she has been given following the shooting.
While her physical injuries are expected to heal, the SPCA hopes she will have the opportunity to experience the safety, care and affection every animal deserves.
For now, the organisation’s focus is on helping Grace recover.
