With the police
investigation into the disappearance of a Kuils River man ongoing, his family
and friends have joined the desperate search for him.

Gerhard
Naude (49) was reported missing in Brackenfell some two weeks ago. The event
organiser was last seen by friends and colleagues on Saturday 2 December
between 10:00 and 14:30.

His father Gert, who had flown down from Pretoria to assist in the
search, told TygerBurger Naude
had left a function venue in Zevenwacht on
the morning, where he had a wedding the previous evening.

“He
had the venue cleaned-up and phoned his mother to say he was going home to feed
his dogs. He left again later that day, telling his housemate he had a party on
in Woodstock. Since then he has not been seen again.”

Having
not heard from him on Sunday (the 3rd), Naude’s mother Beulah tried to contact
him. “He phoned us every day, and we became concerned when we could not get
hold of him. By Tuesday we started contacting his friends and colleagues, who
also had not seen him, which is when we reported him missing. We know Gerhard
would never have abandoned his pets or left them alone for this long. He would
always get a pet sitter.

“I
later found out he had contacted one of his friends on the Sunday, telling him
his car had broken down and he was now busy walking. The police found his car,
a black Mercedes SLK in Woodstock on Wednesday.”

A
group of about 100 friends with his parents, on Thursday evening, ran a
campaign in Sea Point where they distributed thousands of posters and spoke to
members of the public; and on Saturday the group took to the streets of
Woodstock, where they put posters up around the neighbourhood and spoke to
business owners.

“All
the information we gathered was given to the detectives, who are following-up
on the leads,” said Gert. He told the newspaper everyone was deeply saddened by
the situation, yet they believed they would find him and bring him home.

“We
can’t believe this has happened. It is very hard on his mom and me, and we
drive around the peninsula aimlessly in hopes of seeing him somewhere.”

On
Monday morning police confirmed Naude had not yet been found.

“The
person is still missing and the investigation into the matter is still ongoing,” said Sgt Wesley Twigg of the Western Cape Police
Media Centre. “We appeal to anyone with any information that can
assist with the investigation or who knows the whereabouts of the missing
person. They are kindly requested contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.”

Naude
is 1,7 m tall and of muscular build, he has dark blonde hair in a spikey style
and brown eyes. Both his ears are pierced with studs and he sometimes wears
dark glasses. He has a tattoo of three swallows behind his left ear, a triangle
outline on his right hand and a large tribal tattoo on his
shoulder.

 He
was last seen in a short-sleeved back-and-white check shirt and denim shorts.
