An actress from Delft says she hopes the new movie she is starring in will shine the spotlight on gender- based violence in her community.
Abygail Human will play the lead in an upcoming movie called Love in the Hell with stars like Maurice Paige and Brendon Daniels. The movie that tackles issues like rape and abuse will be released later this year.
Human, who also played in the highly succesfull Netflix series Blood and Water, says this is the first time that she will be playing one of the lead roles.
“It is a privilege to get to play one of the leading roles. Growing up in the area of Delft I had not even known that acting was a potential career path for me. Where I come from I had no reference to acting or what you need to do to become an actor. So I feel very blessed because I was chosen out of many to be part of the acting industry and to feature as one of the main actors,” says Human.
According to her it was challenging for someone like her that haven’t got any qualifications.
“I am starting in the industry and the other actors are experienced and have qualifications. But it was really great because I learned a lot about how the work should be done. The main thing is just to stay focused and to always be energetic, because it’s really tiring and takes a lot of your time,” says Human.
She says she hopes the movie can have an impact on gender based violence in her community.
“To all those going through or suffering from gender based violence and is not able to speak up or about, this film is for you. It is okay not to be silent,” she says.
