The De Grendel Lions Club recently partnered with Diabetes SA to focus on one of the international Lions pillars of service – Diabetes. Armed with information packs provided by Diabetes SA, Lions members visited the Bothasig Police Station in Steenoven Street, Bothasig, recently to educate the members about diabetes.
During the visit the Lions were able to have a one-on-one conversation with the staff on duty and raise awareness regarding diabetes, while presenting each member with an information pack containing amongst other items, healthy recipes.
Lion president elect, Glenda Hon, said she was pleasantly surprised when the members mentioned that they do have regular health checks which also include diabetes checks.
Hon thanked the station commander, Lt Col Jeremy Pieterse, for the time spent at the police station and his willingness to ensure that the staff could be informed regarding a healthy lifestyle. She also thanked Diabetes SA national manager, Margot McCumisky, for partnering with De Grendel Lions.
McCumisky was very complementary regarding the project, mentioning that the health of the police is very important and that partnerships highlighting diabetes help to inform the broader community regarding diabetes.
