Table View High’s safety patrol boys, known as the “Dapper Stappers”, are setting the standard for school road safety. Under the leadership of Captain Handro these learners are on a mission to protect their peers and promote responsible behaviour on and around our roads.

In a message to the school Handro reminds the public that road safety is everyone’s responsibility, whether walking, cycling or commuting in other ways. With darker mornings setting in, it’s more important than ever to stay alert and follow these key safety tips:

  • Use designated pedestrian crossings.
  • Look both ways before crossing.
  • Don’t assume drivers can see you.
  • Stay off phones and avoid distractions.

Learners are urged to obey all traffic signs and signals and listen to scholar patrol instructions. These safety leaders are trained to keep everyone out of harm’s way.

“Due to a recent rise in local crime, learners are encouraged to walk in groups whenever possible,” the school stated. “Safety comes first, and failure to follow such guidelines will result in a referral to your grade head.”

The following are approved safety zones for waiting and drop-offs:

  • Cycle Teknix – 145 Blaauwberg Road;
  • Battery Centre – Corner of Blaauwberg Road and Janssens Avenue;
  • Weather Prufe – Shop 1, Flamingo Square.

“A heartfelt thanks go to Star Alarms and Sherwood Biltong for sponsoring the Dapper Stappers’ new winter jackets, helping them stay warm and proud. Special thanks also to Carol Ann Avery, Sector 3 CPF Sub-Forum chair, for her ongoing mentorship and safety training. Together, we’re building a safer school community, one step at a time.”
