Two drug dens were raided in the last week, yielding in total 128 kg of dagga

Metro police officers of the City of Cape Town seized more than 4 kg of dagga in Fisantekraal on Saturday 9 August after officers received information of drugs being kept at a house.

This came shortly after an operation by the Hawks in which 124.5kg of compressed dagga was confiscated at Beck’s Place apartments in Gladstone Street in the centre of Durbanville. TygerBurger is still awaiting more information on this operation.

Search of premises

The homeowner in Fisantekraal granted permission for a search of the premises and officers confiscated a black bag filled with dagga weighing 3,39 kg, a 221 g parcel of dagga, 92 bankies and 93 dagga cigarettes, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash.

The homeowner was arrested for dealing in dagga, according to a media release by the City.

“The devastating impact of drugs on our communities continues long after we’ve taken the dealers off the streets, says JP Smith, Mayco committee member for safety and security. “Not only are families destroyed, but drugs fuel many other crimes and illicit dealings. Despite arrests, the suspects are often back on the street a few days later to continue their criminal dealings,” he says.

“The City’s hands are tied beyond the initial arrest. We can make an even bigger difference with increased powers to investigate these cases. We have made a significant impact in reducing crime and taking drugs off the streets, in spite of our limited resources and powers. We have proven that we are ready to do more,” he says.

This arrest was among 42 arrests by metro police officers in the past week.
