The two managers were immediately arrested at the scene.

Police minister Bheki Cele’s recently released country-wide crime statistics show a spike in reported crime at Table View and Milnerton police stations.

These stations were among some of the top-ranked police stations in various reported crime-related incidents.

Table View police station raked 27th out of the top 30 police stations for drug-related crimes. During 2019/2020, a total of 561 cases were reported. It spiked to 664 during 2020/2021, with a 103 difference.

The Table View Neighbourhood Watch (TVNW) says they are aware of the most reported crimes that occur in the area.

“We receive alerts from members of the public who report crimes to our all-hours phone, which is monitored 24/7. Some crimes are reported directly to Table View police. Many members of the public do not report crimes or do not open a case which means that the statistics may be inaccurate,” says Laura Outhet, TVNW media liaison.

She adds that overall, the increases evident within the crime statistics is quite shocking. “A 1% increase may not seem like much but when we are talking about thousands of crimes, 1% becomes a rather large number,” she says.

Outhet says they are connected with security and management of commercial shopping centres within the area.

“TVNW, security companies, the police, law enforcement and other role players are working tirelessly to form a multi-layered approach to crime within the area. Members of the public are equally important in this approach and we encourage active participation in the community in the prevention of crimes. Report it when it happens, join your neighbourhood watch and get to know your neighbours,” she says.
