After some inconsistent performances on the cricket field the Bishop Lavis Cricket Club found themselves back to winning ways with brilliant batting performances by Neo Petersen (118) and Bevan Abrahams (104), and a match-winning bowling display by Simeon Fondling, who took 7 wickets for only 30 runs.
Lavis won the toss and elected to bat and soon their decision paid dividends as Abrahams and Chad Fisher(30) had an opening stand of 62 runs. Making his way back into the team, Andrew Calvert (9) came in at number three and moved the score along 93 runs with Abrahams.
Entertained
As the temperature of the day was rising, so did Lavis’ batting as Petersen entertained the crowd with some exquisite batting.
Petersen has always been regarded as one of the Cape’s young talents and Saturday he lived up to expectations. During his innings of 118 runs, his maiden century in the First Division B league, he hit 6 sixes and 8 fours. While Petersen was hitting boundaries in all directions, the ever consistent Abrahams hit 1 six and 8 fours in his innings of 104 runs.
Mammoth score
With Dillon Plaatjies (15*) and Emilo Koeberg (3*) the boys from Lavis managed to put a mammoth score of 288 on the scoreboard.
With a target of 289, it has become evident that the visitors from Belhar will always struggle with the bat, as they lost their first three wickets within the first powerplay, with the score on only 19 runs. The Lavis bowlers did not make it any easier for the visitors as Fondling took wickets at regular intervals and ended the day with figures of 7/30. He was well supported by Jerwaan Goosen (1/11) and Shaquille Phillips (2/27).
