The Belhar Community Policing Forum (CPF) says they want the community to stand together against crime and speak out if they know any information of crimes committed.

This coming Saturday (13 May) the CPF will host a march in Belhar to get all the stakeholders to unite againts violent crime in the area.

The march follows last week’s killing of a student from the University of the Western Cape.

Kamva Dasi (23) was shot while walking with friends in Belhar.

Unity

According to Ismael Arnold, spokesperson for the CPF, they have done previous marches and events, but this will be a march to unite the community of Belhar.

“We cannot keep hiding the criminals that are keeping us, as residents hostage. The importance of the march is to take back our streets from these criminals, to make Belhar a safer and peaceful area and to walk the streets without fear,” says Arnold.

He says the community can take part by showing their support.

“We are all victims and prisoners in our homes and are impacted negatively. The community should not sit back and think others will do this, because their voices are needed. It is all very good and well voicing concerns on WhatsApp groups and social media platforms, however, how far does it really go? Be there for yourself and for the rest of the community. We urge the community of Belhar to come out with their posters and put a stop to drugs, crimes and murders,” says Arnold.

The march will start at 10:00 at the local police station.
