The Elsies River Community Policing Forum (CPF) are disgusted after a shopkeeper was killed in Elsies River last week.
Mohamed Hoosain (25) was shot multiple times in the face when he opened the well-known Mahmood Shop in Clarke Estate.
Hamish Arries, chair of the CPF, says the murder is tragic.
“We as members of this community cannot accept this. The killing of a shopkeeper serving our essential needs is a crisis. We condemn this brutal act in the strongest terms. It is cowardice as it happened early and during loadshedding,” says Arries.
“We call on the community of Clarke Estate to come forward and join their local structures of the CPF, neighbourhood watches and street committee to strengthen the police and law enforcement to bring peace and safety in the community.
Arries says they urge the police to find and arrest the murderers as soon as possible.
“We see the killing of our shopkeepers as a direct assault on our community as many are dependent on them for the daily service they render. These criminals must be brought to book,” he says.
The shooting of Hoosain follows a shooting incident where two teenagers were shot at, one being killed at the corner of Norwood Road and 12th Avenue, Leonsdale.
The 17-year-old was seriously injured while the 15-year-old lost his life. Arries also condemned the killing of the teenagers.
The Elsies River police says no-one has been arrested for the murder.
“We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist the police to identify and find the killers. We will leave no stone unturned in pursuit of these criminals,” says Sgt Esmerelda Pheifer, police spokesperson.
Anyone with any information about this fatal shooting incident should call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
