Ward 113 has enjoyed a busy and productive week, with Councillor Sue van der Linde actively engaging with residents, attending key meetings, and overseeing improvements across the ward. From boosting community involvement in local parks to supporting youth activities and by-elections, the councillor highlighted the importance of collaboration and action.
“It has been a full and constructive week. Working alongside residents, neighbourhood watch members, and community organisations, we are making tangible improvements and ensuring Ward 113 remains a safe, vibrant, and responsive community,” said Van der Linde.
The week began with the Dunoon Clinic Committee meeting and a full caucus sitting. She also spent time with the ward clerk planning for the next quarter, identifying hotspot areas, and developing practical solutions to ongoing challenges.

By-election boosts support
Last Wednesday saw the Dunoon by-election in full swing. Van der Linde joined fellow DA members across voting districts, witnessing long hours of dedication and civic engagement. The result was encouraging, with the DA doubling its support base in the ward.
Throughout the week, the councillor engaged directly with residents, listening to concerns and addressing compliance-related matters. These interactions remain key to ensuring that Ward 113 stays responsive and solution-driven.
Joining neighbourhood watch members on a patrol of the T-shaped park, Van der Linde reported visible improvements: alien vegetation cleared and play areas well maintained. Overgrown reeds, however, remain a concern, providing refuge for rough sleepers. Sections were cleared by residents, with additional assistance requested from Parks.
Special recognition went to a proactive resident who removed a dumped tractor tyre and helped clean paving near the mosque—a gesture applauded by the councillor.
Ward meetings and governance insights
At the Section 80 Advisory Committee meeting, Van der Linde raised the overgrown reeds issue and operational challenges with the Milnerton Aquatic Club (MAC) weed harvester.
On Saturday, the Metro Council meeting offered insight into the daily challenges faced by DA councillors in other regions, underscoring the value of stable governance.
She also visited MAC to support the 24-hour sailing event, celebrating young people actively engaged on the water and using club facilities.
The week concluded with engagement on proposed constitutional amendments ahead of the national congress in Johannesburg next month.
“Working together with residents and volunteers, we are creating tangible results and building a stronger, safer community,” added Van der Linde.
