The ward councillor for Bonteheuwel, Angus McKenzie, praised the community for peaceful Guy Fawkes celebrations.
He said despite the continued lighting of fireworks and the smearing of certain individuals, the overwhelming response from the people of Bonteheuwel has been exceptional. “I want to thank the vast majority of residents who stood up in support of their community and refused to allow the actions of a few to define Bonteheuwel. Thank you to everyone who reported incidents through the official channels; your alerts enabled the rapid deployment of Law Enforcement, SAPS, Metro Police, NSOs and myself to various hotspots, which prevented several situations from escalating into far bigger problems.”
Impressed
McKenzie said as a councillor he was extremely impressed by how the community responded. “While there are still elements who choose to break the law, the collective action of Bonteheuwel residents has made one thing very clear; we will not stand for lawlessness in our community.”
