On Wednesday 8 November TygerBurger published a letter by
Brackenfell resident Pine Pienaar (“Developers ‘will get their way” in
Brackenfell”) in which allegations were made against City of Cape Town
councillors, Grant Twigg and Mariaan Nieuwoudt.
TygerBurger failed to give the City and the mentioned
councillors the opportunity to reply, prior to publication.
While a letter by Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis
(“Statements in letter were ‘defamatory’ “) was published in response on
Wednesday 15 November, TygerBurger would also like to clarify the following:
- Neither Nieuwoudt nor
Twigg serves on the Municipal Planning Tribunal as stated by Pienaar. - Nieuwoudt however serves
on the Planning Appeals Advisory Panel and Twigg has previously served on
the same panel, according to the City of Cape Town website.
