In a strange twist of matters, police in Bellville are searching for a woman they once saved but who they now believe allegedly lied about being abducted and repeatedly raped.
According to WO Joseph Swartbooi, provincial spokesperson for the police, the woman, Philiswa Lwana (43) was reported missing in November 2021, and claimed, “that she was abducted and repeatedly raped by unknown suspects at a residence close to Tygervalley Mall, in Bellville.
“The investigating officer went the proverbial extra mile, to save her out of the claws of the suspects in a bid to reunite her with her relatives.”
Yet, upon further investigation the officer found the information to be “fabricated and false”.
He has since registered a charge of defeating the ends of justice.
In the meantime, Lwana went missing and police connected to the Bellville Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit are appealing to the public for help in finding her.
- Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Philiswa Lwana is asked to contact detective Sgt Conrad Van Zyl on 082 522 1095 or alternatively call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
