Residents in parts of Strandfontein and New Lentegeur will experience scheduled electricity-supply interruptions this week as the City of Cape Town undertakes critical maintenance and infrastructure upgrades.

Seven roads in Strandfontein will be without power on Tuesday 2 September.

The electricity supply will be interrupted in Ketch and Barque closes, and Frigate, Ketch, Steamboat, Privateer and Caravel roads from 08:30 to 17:00. The outage is required for the replacement of kiosks.

On Wednesday 3 September three roads will be without power in New Lentegeur. Power will be switched off in Candytuft, Cilia, Gerbera streets and surrounding areas between 09:00 and 16:00 for circuit-breaker maintenance.

Ward 76 councillor Avron Plaatjies said the disruption was necessary to ensure a safe and reliable electricity supply. He also urged residents to share the notice with neighbours who may not have access to digital updates.

The City of Cape Town apologised for the inconvenience and thanked residents for their patience as it carried its work to strengthen and maintain the electricity network out.

It has urged residents to treat all electrical installations as live during the interruption, as supply could be restored without warning. Customers are also advised to switch their geysers off during the outage and wait at least one hour after power restoration before switching them back on to avoid damage.

The work is weather-dependent and may be postponed due to unforeseen factors. Residents can confirm operational status after one hour by contacting the City’s Customer Support Centre on 0860 103 089.
