The City of Cape Town’s Electricity Directorate has attended to more than 10 700 storm-related service requests since 11 May 2026, with mopping-up operations continuing across the metro to address all remaining faults.
More than 16 000 service requests have been logged in total, with approximately 10 762 fault repairs successfully completed between 11 and 15 May.
Mayco member for Energy Xanthea Limberg noted that many repairs require the complete replacement of damaged infrastructure, rather than simply switching power back on.

“Our electricity teams and contractors have been working tirelessly to respond to all storm-related service requests,” she said.
“To strengthen our response, our teams have redirected resources from less affected areas, including technical teams and Law Enforcement, to communities where support is most urgently needed.”
The Electricity Directorate has thanked residents for their continued patience and support.
Requests attended to by area
The following service requests were attended to between 11 and 15 May (subject to fluctuation as data is cleaned up and requests are attended to):
- East (Helderberg, Oostenberg, Bloemhof, Parow): 2 111
- North (Vanguard, Mowbray, City, Atlantis): 4 121
- South (Mitchells Plain, Wynberg, Gugulethu, Muizenberg): 4 530
Avoid logging duplicate requests
Residents are reminded not to log multiple service requests for the same issue, as this creates duplication, increases administrative lead times, and further delays the City’s response.
Members of the public are urged to avoid proximity to exposed electrical infrastructure, such as downed wires, and to report such incidents to the City immediately.
How to report electricity faults
To avoid delays caused by duplication, residents are asked to log requests on one channel only:
Call Centre: 0860 103 089
SMS: 31220 (free SMS service does not apply)
