The Montague Gardens-Marconi Beam Improvement District (MMID) is urging motorists to be extra vigilant after several car remote jammings were reported in the Montague Gardens area recently.
“In the light of this concerning trend we urge all business owners and visitors alike to exercise heightened vigilance and discretion,” the MMID says.
Police have also reported a number of car remote jamming cases in the broader Milnerton and Table View areas in recent weeks, especially in parking areas.
“As unsuspecting motorists go about their daily routines, criminals exploit vulnerabilities in wireless car entry systems, leaving victims stranded and bewildered. Through firsthand accounts, expert insights, and statistical analysis, we uncover the multifaceted nature of this modern-day crime wave. Additionally, we explore potential countermeasures and proactive steps that drivers can take to mitigate the risk of falling victim to remote jamming attacks,” police say.

The MMID says by working together, they can create a sense of awareness and responsiveness. “We can effectively collaborate to mitigate and deter criminal activities within our area. Should you observe any activities that arouse suspicion, or if you personally encounter any instances of car remote jamming, we encourge you to promptly report it. Let us unite in our commitment to safeguarding our community.”

- Keep an eye out for suspicious behaviour or individuals in the parking area.
- Avoid leaving valuable items in your car.
- If you have to leave items in your car, place the items in the boot of your car.
- Consider investing in anti-jamming devices or car alarms that alert you when your car is not properly locked.
