A staff member working at a store in Tyger Valley Shopping Centre in Cape Town died yesterday, reportedly after shelving fell on top of her.
Tanya Heimann, general manager of the centre, confirmed they were notified by the Cotton On Group of a “fatality of a staff member” but did not divulge further details.
According to unconfirmed reports shelving fell on a woman working in the Typo store.
The Typo brand is owned by the Cotton On Group.
“The incident was reported to Tyger Valley Centre management at approximately 12:45 on 17 November 2022.”
She says emergency medical services were immediately called to the scene, “but the patient unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.”
Natalie Wills, Africa Country Manager for the Cotton On Group, says they are unable to comment on what happened, but says they are deeply saddened by “the passing of a much loved team member.”
“Our hearts and thoughts are with the family at this time, and with respect to the family, we’re unable to comment further.”
