I would like to express my shock and disgust at the incident in Durbanville (“Sakeman in hegtenis vir skoot op messteker“, TygerBurger 17 September), in which a concerned businessman was trying to save someone’s life and, after using physical force on the attacker, had to resort to using a firearm to avoid a murder or further injury to the victim.
The report stipulates that he reported this to the police, only to get arrested for attempted murder.
What was he supposed to do? Just stand back and watch and let the criminal do as he pleased?
Instead of thanking him, the police locked him up for the night. Unbelievable!
I hope he sues the police for tarnishing his name.
Can someone please get clarity on what the police would like the public to do when they encounter any type of criminal offence?
Should we just stand and watch and wait for someone to die?
It seems if you don’t have a red beret and overalls you’re likely to get arrested at the drop of a hat.
Stop the crazy, Brackenfell
