Following the adoption of a constitution in November last year the newly established Kuils River Business Association held a general meeting last week to elect its first executive committee.
The focus of the association is to represent the interests of business owners in Kuils River. Only business owners are allowed full membership with voting rights.
Attorney Ralph Smith, who chaired the meeting (with permission before the committee was elected), said the founding members of the association (who signed the constitution) started the process of recruiting members.
The newly elected committee will be responsible for approving membership applications going forward.
Smith said it was decided no membership fee would be charged in the first year as the organisation cannot add any value to members yet and right now it encourages recruitment of new members.
For the time being the association will need to rely on fundraising and donations.
Aldrich Burmeister was elected chair, and Smith deputy chair. Mandy Magabela is secretary and Stefan Botma treasurer.
