A well-known former Bishop Lavis police reservist was gunned
down in Bishop Lavis yesterday (Thursday 18 October) afternoon.
Gregory Carelse was shot and killed, allegedly by two gunmen
on the corners of Kasteelberg Road and Barracuda Crescent at 17:45. One of the
suspects was allegedly also shot and killed in the incident
A family member told TygerBurger the family is devastated
about the murder.
“He was very involved in crime fighting and combating gang
violence in Bishop Lavis. Because of his crime fighting, it’s alleged that gang
bosses offered hitmen R250 000 to get him killed,” says the source who
preferred to remain anonymous.
Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana
told TygerBurger that Bishop Lavis police are investigating a case of double murder.
“According to information, a shooting incident occurred in
the corner of Kasteelberg road and Barracuda Crescent, Bishop Lavis and it left
two men aged 18 and 56 years old fatally wounded. “Police detectives are
combing for clues and appeal to anyone with more information about the incident
to contact Crime top on 08600 10111,” says Rwexana.
No one has been arrested so far.
