A woman (38) from Oude Westhof in Bellville appeared in Bellville regional court last Thursday on a charge of theft of R7 million from her company.
The woman worked as a bookkeeper for Silverback Technologies, a technology company in Durbanville in 2015, according to provincial police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala.
“The irregular transactions were discovered by an accounting firm during an audit in 2020 and an investigation was launched.
“Multiple electronic transfers were made to the suspect’s bank account and that of her now late father,” Gwala says.
The suspect, Reinette Budricks, handed herself to the commercial crime investigator and admitted she committed the crime last Wednesday.
She was arrested and detained at Durbanville police station and made her first appearance the next day.
Budricks was released on R100 000 bail. The case was postponed to 19 April.
TygerBurger tried to make contact with Silverback Technologies, but it seems none of the phone numbers on the website exists anymore.
