The Bonteheuwel Walking Ladies had a busy Women’s Month with their own programmes, but was also invited to other organisations.
According to Soraya Salie from Walking Ladies they are happy and proud of their roles celebrating Women’s Month.
“We renewed our collaboration with the Woodstock Trauma Centre as there is a great need for trauma counselling in our community due to the high level of gender-based violence and gangsterism.
“After that we received 20 invitations from Madrassah tul Ouwabeen for a lunch and afternoon of fun and entertainment with more than 500 seniors at Rosewood School Hall. Then in collaboration with a consortium of attorneys we hosted a free will session as well as a brief workshop regarding inheritance and transfer of title deeds. We were pleased to host about 200 of our community members,” says Salie.

Salie thanked Moegam’mad Ghanief Karriem and Aakifah Sonday from Salie and Salie Attorneys, Moegamad Yazeed Isaacs Attorneys, Notaries and Conveyancers, T.J. Properties, Taalib Jantjies and Kareema Moses, as well as Progressive Sound Production, Maahier Williams who kindly supplied the sound.
“We are happy to announce that this will be a continuous monthly legal clinic, for this much needed free service to our community,” says Salie.
Among the other events the Walking Ladies included the Bellville South Seniors and Kasselsvlei Community Policing Forum’s Woman’s Day event at Bellville South Civic Cente, an event at the Youthful Management of SA Sendinggestig Museum in Long Street, the Bonteheuwel High School’s Women’s Day event, the St Luke’s Day Hospice in Belgravia’s event, as well as their own event at the Bonteheuwel Civic Centre.
“We had the new manager and trauma counsellors on board defining the various types of abuse and GBV, as well as the service they offer. We will soon announce the new counselling offices in Bonteheuwel where people can go for private consultations,” says Salie.
