Shoppers at Haasendal Gables in Kuils River were met with temporary store closures this morning (Sunday 11 January) after a fire broke out at Haasendal SPAR last night (Saturday 10 January).
According to a statement issued by centre management on social media, the fire originated inside the SPAR coffee shop and, based on information available at this stage, the damage appears to be contained within the SPAR premises.
Emergency services responded to the incident, and affected tenants were instructed not to resume trading until an official all-clear is issued by the fire department.
At the time of publication, no injuries had been reported.
Shops closed pending fire department clearance
Centre management confirmed that the following tenants would remain closed for the day as a precautionary measure:
- SPAR
- TOPS
- Urban Nuts
- Famous Kalahari
- PostNet
- All About Cats and Dogs
- The Tailor
Shoppers have been advised to monitor official centre communication channels for updates on reopening times as assessments continue.

Authorities yet to confirm cause
Further details surrounding the cause of the fire have not yet been confirmed. At the time of publication, TygerBurger was still awaiting comment from the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service.
