Police officers in Bellville made at least two arrests in recent weeks, Capt Aubrey Morwenyane, spokesperson of the police station, says.
In the first case, Capt Whitey van Zyl, the station’s crime prevention unit commander, received information from the Boston CID about passengers in a motor vehicle who robbed a delivery motorbike driver of his cellphone.
“A full description of the vehicle was given to the captain who then passed the info to his officers who were down the road patrolling. Whilst patrolling Sgt Dave Salmans and Const Mteteleli Nyandana saw a vehicle matching the description and immediately requested back-up from other patrolling cars,” Morwenyane says.
The car was stopped and searched.
“Upon preliminary investigation, a robbed cellphone was found in the possession of the suspects.”
Four suspects who were inside the vehicle were arrested and detained at the Bellville Police Station. A case of robbery is being investigated.
In the second case, three suspects were arrested at the Bellville Market while busy breaking into the shop on 9 February. One suspect was found inside the shop while two others were found outside. Sgt Landile Mtshizana of Bellville Police Station arrested and detained the perpetrators.
“Bellville Police Management would like to thank all its partners for their contribution to fight crime in our community.”
