Five years after a shop in a Bellville CBD shopping centre was targeted by two armed suspects, 28-year-old Trevor Moilwa was arrested and sentenced to 23 years in prison for the robbery and possession of an illegal firearm.
Bellville police spokesperson, Lt Col Fienie Nimb, shared this success, detailing that the robbery happened in February 2020. “Two men armed with firearms entered the business premises and demanded cash. They removed the safe containing a large amount of money, and fled in a black Audi,” she said.
Video material was obtained and the getaway vehicle, as well as the suspects, were later identified by police.
“A few days after the business robbery, the suspected vehicle was spotted and stopped in La Belle road, Bellville. The driver, a 28-year-old male, Trevor Moilwa, was identified as one of the suspects that was involved in the business robbery and was arrested,” continued Nimb.
Moilwa was searched and found in possession of an illegal firearm. “This firearm was also linked to a theft of a firearm in Virginia,” she added.
The other suspect remains at large and wanted by authorities.
Detective Sgt Chriswin Lombard, the investigating officer received a positive outcome when a 23 year prison sentence was handed down.
The sentences run concurrently as follows: For the business robbery a 15 year sentence was imposed, followed by possession of stolen firearm for a sentence of five years including three years for the illegal possession of ammunition.
