The City’s fire and rescue services battled a blaze at an industrial property in Bellville for more than 13 hours before the fire was fully extinguished on Thursday morning.
The City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, said firefighters were notified of the building on fire in Uranium Street, Bellville Industria at approximately 22:15 on Wednesday 10 June.
“The first arriving officer assessed the scene and called for additional resources, which triggered the activation of the Incident Management Team Type 4,” said Carelse.
Emergency response
Approximately 30 firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control, with crews achieving this at around 02:00.
According to Carelse, two factories sustained damage in the fire and a building inspector has been requested to ascertain the structural integrity of the affected buildings.
Relief crews remained on-site to carry out extensive overhauling operations following the initial containment of the blaze.
Fire extinguished
The fire was fully extinguished at 11:15 on Thursday. Firefighters conducted inspections every three hours to monitor for any flare-ups.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. No injuries have been reported.
