Police in Bellville have been busy with a range of arrests.
In one case a man in Bellville’s CBD was apprehended for the
possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition on Tuesday evening.
Constables Dudley Abrahams and Charles Neelse were
patrolling the area when they stopped and searched a suspicious man.
“In his possession (they found) a 9mm pistol with serial
number filed off , four live rounds and one cartridge,” Bellville police
spokesperson Jonathan Blankenberg says.
“The suspect could not respond when asked who the owner of
the firearm was. The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of an
illegal firearm and ammunition and will soon appear in court.”
In another case, two burglars were arrested last week.
While walking down a Boston street, the two men were
approached by two patrolling police officers last Monday at around 08:30.
According to Blankenberg, one of the men was known to the
police, who stopped and searched them.
In their possession they found goods the police suspected
had been stolen.
“Whilst busy questioning them the members heard over the
radio about a house breaking that occurred at Stanlou Court, Weltevreden
Street, Boston, Bellville, which was just a street away from where the suspects
were approached,” Blankenberg explained.
The officers, constables Vusi Masi and Shaun Plaatjies, took
the suspects to the crime scene where they discovered that more items were
stolen from different garages at the same premises.
“One of the suspects then took the members to his sleeping
place where the other goods were seized.”
The suspects appeared in court last week on charges of
housebreaking and theft.
Acting Station Commander of Bellville Police Station,
Colonel Thembalani Matshahlana commended the members for their “outstanding
work.”
