Seniors were spoiled at Balvenie Primary School on Mandela Day.

Balvenie Primary School in Elsies River celebrated Mandela Day hosting a special breakfast and pamper day for the elderly from the community in partnership with CAFDA School of Skills.

According to Chanté Solomons, spokesperson for the school, the elderly enjoyed a delightful breakfast at the school before being treated to manicures, hair styling, and massages at CAFDA School of Skills. “On their return, they received gifts as a token of our appreciation for their invaluable role in the lives of their grandchildren at our school. Grandparents are pivotal in the upbringing and lives of children, and we cherish every opportunity to honour them,” says Solomons.

Donations

The school also received a visit from representatives of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) and Nadeson Consulting Services, who donated books, a laptop, printer, stationery, and paper for the brand new school library. “The donations are a wonderful start to getting our library up and running, and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts.

“To the CPUT team, thank you for your years of support. It was a privilege to host our very first event in our new school library, an ongoing project built by CPUT students. The library team and students made the day special by reading interactive stories to our learners and handing out prizes,” says Solomons.

Mandela Day at the school was made even better as they welcomed guests Prof Jonathan Jansen and Steve Ross.

“Our learners had the invaluable opportunity to learn about the importance of living out values such as giving and caring for others. They were inspired by stories about Nelson Mandela’s character and his unwavering fight against Apartheid, even during his imprisonment.

“Our students learned that because of his dedication and sacrifices, they are able to live without the oppression of Apartheid today,” she says.
