Residents from Goodwood are disgusted about unmaintained properties that attract all kinds of elements to their streets and neighbourhood.

A resident who wishes to remain anonymous due to previous threats, feels it influences his ability to sell his house. He says this particular property is an eye sore for the public and holds a health risk.

He said the property is being vandalised, rats run around, the grass is unmaintained, “and almost anything happens at this property”.

According to the ward councillor, Cecile Janse van Rensburg, complaints were received about the house on Spencer Street, Goodwood, but they are health-related and the health department was informed about it.

Janse van Rensburg said the son of the deceased owner, the executor, was contacted and informed about the complaints and advised they would clean the property.

“PBU will do a follow-up at the property to ascertain if the remedial measures promised have been affected,” Janse van Rensburg said.

Wayne Dyason, spokesperson for law enforcement, said the City’s Problem Building Unit confirms that the property was listed as a problem building, but due to compliance by the owner, the case file was recommended closed.

According to Dyason, the Problem Building Unit (PBU) closed this case due to compliance by the owner who cleaned and secured this property.
