Activities at Adriaanse Library empowered the youth

Adriaanse Library in Elsies River, in partnership with the Cape Town Multi-Service Centre (CTMSC), successfully hosted a Youth Day fun-day programme on Monday, 15 June 2026, at the Adriaanse Civic Hall.

Engaging

The event was organised to commemorate Youth Day whilst educating, empowering, and engaging young people within the community. The programme aimed to raise awareness of library and health services and opportunities available to young people, highlight various social issues affecting them, and provide a safe and enjoyable recreational experience.Representatives from the CTMSC addressed several social challenges and highlighted the support services available within the community. Information on local clinics and healthcare services was shared to promote health awareness and wellbeing.

Although the event was planned for approximately 200 participants, attendance exceeded expectations, with more than 350 children and youth attending throughout the day. Following an educational programme, participants enjoyed a variety of recreational activities facilitated by the Sports and Recreation Department, which included soccer, netball, board games, team-building activities, and various fun and recreational games. These activities encouraged teamwork, social interaction, and healthy participation among the youth, contributing significantly to the success of the event.

The programme was further enhanced by the attendance of popular TikTok influencers Selelie Boy and Woza Carlito, whose presence generated great excitement and enthusiasm among participants. Their interaction with the youth created memorable moments and added significant value to the day’s celebrations.

Educational

“The programme was a resounding success, as evidenced by the sheer number of young people who turned up. I want to encourage them to seize the educational and recreational opportunities that were presented. The event demonstrated the power of collaboration, partnership, and community involvement in creating meaningful experiences for young people. It is a reminder of the positive impact that occurs when the City, organisations, community members, and stakeholders work together to invest in and empower the next generation,” said the City’s Mayco Member for Community Services and Health, Francine Higham.
