A small Bellville-based brand, Three Sisters & Co, was nominated in this year’s Eco-Logic Awards for the Eco-Health and Wellness category, owing to their passion for people and the environment in making quality, sustainable hair and body products.

The Eco-Logic Awards is a highly anticipated awards event that will take place on Wednesday 30 October at the Two Oceans Aquarium, V&A Waterfront.

Three Sisters & Co

Three Sisters & Co was nominated alongside Aether Group (Aether Apothecary) and Kiko Vitals.

Three Sisters co-founder and owner Kerry Russell told TygerBurger they did not enter, but were nominated for this award by Dr Glynis Humphrey.

“It really is an honour and privilege to be selected as a finalist, standing alongside such incredible brands and initiatives that are making a positive impact. As a small business, the exposure and recognition this offers Three Sisters & Co is fantastic,”

 shared Russel.

Described as a micromakery in Cape Town where their zero-waste products are formulated with plant-based, locally-sourced ingredients and without “nasties”. Meaning, their products do not contain parabens, phalates, silicones, harmful sulphates, synthetic colourants, mineral oils etc which are endocrine-disrupting and pollute water systems.

“Our products are biodegradable & PH Balanced. Our Solid Shampoo Bars, Conditioner Bars, & Face Bars are made without water and are a concentrated product, hand-pressed and made in small batches,” according to their website.

With a look at their eco-friendly, streamlined product line, one of their Mini Shampoo Bars is equivalent to approximately three bottles of shampoo (sparing the land-fill waste of three plastic bottles).

Three Sisters & Co’s packaging is also biodegradable with their glass packaging being recyclable and reusable.

“Wherever possible we aim to educate others about the importance of their choices and how that impacts their health and the earth,” the website continues.

People, planet and profit

Highlighting some of South Africa’s most innovative and impactful eco-champions, these awards, now in their 13th year, celebrate individuals, organisations, products and services that are pioneering eco-conscious solutions across the country.

Entries opened in April this year, and submissions across the 12 categories were evaluated by a panel of independent and environmentally knowledgeable executives from diverse backgrounds.

David Parry-Davies, editor of The Enviropaedia and founder of the Eco-Logic Awards, speaks to this years nominees:

“While many of the entries were impressive, what ultimately led us to deciding on the finalists was decided by how well they demonstrated and reflected what we call Eco-Logical Intelligence.

“Such intelligence is defined by seven specific ways of thinking that are beneficial for ‘People, Planet and Profit’,” added Parry-Davis.

Evolutionary competition

In an evolutionary move, the Eco-Logic Awards have partnered with Biomimicry SA this year, introducing a focus on nature-inspired solutions to human challenges.

In addition to the prestige and honour of earning an Eco-Logic Award and all the media attention that this brings, the winners will also benefit from a consultation, valued at R300 000, with the BiomimicrySA team and enrolment in their “Change Makers by Nature” programme. The programme gives participants the tools they need to lead purposefully, think systemically, and design solutions inspired by nature.

Hosted by Comedian and Presenter Themba Robin, the ceremony will be broadcast on PPL°PLANET (OpenView Channel 115), offering millions of South Africans the opportunity to witness the progress being made toward a sustainable future.

From Eco-Fashion and Lifestyle to Circulation Economy and Waste Innovation, this year’s finalists embody the Eco-Logic Awards’ mission to support and promote initiatives, products, and services, that contribute to a healthier, happier and more sustainable future for all.
