An 11-year old girl from Brackenfell escaped what appears to be an alleged kidnapping in front of her house in Sonkring yesterday.
Police spokesperson Captain Erica Crous confirmed the incident that took place at about 16:20 in Vleiland Crescent.
“It is alleged that the complainant was sitting outside in front of her home when a silver Avanza (Toyota) stopped in the road. There were four men in the vehicle. The driver climbed out, with a knife in his hand, and approached the girl and repeatedly grabbed her the arm, trying to rob her of her cellphone. A neighbour saw this and started yelling at the men after which they sped away,” says Crous.
An eyewitness reported seeing another child of about 14 years old in the car.
The silver Avanza only had a back registration plate of CA 545985. The right rear back light of the car had brown tape on it and the vehicle had dents in the body.
A case of attempted robbery is currently under investigation, as criminal law does not make provision for attempted kidnapping charges, says Crous.
