After being burnt down during service delivery protests in 2014, the Bloekombos Community Hall in Kraaifontein will be replaced with a brand new facility to the tune of R10,6 million.
In a presentation at a subcouncil 2 meeting last week, the City of Cape Town outlined the project that is set to within weeks.
The old hall of which only the steel framing is left, will be demolished and removed while the new hall will be constructed in Sam Njokezela Avenue.
It will sport an outdoor stage and amphitheatre, activities hall, bathrooms and administration office.
The facility will be complete with disabled ramps and toilets.
City official Oliver Wentley says local labour will be utilised at a target at 12%.
According to Wentley the new community hall is set to be completed within 12 months and scheduled to open next year.
“The contractor was appointed during the lockdown period and authorities and other role players have since met with the community who expressed their happiness with the project.”
Bloekombos councillor Siyabonba Duka from the ANC says the project as one of his own legacy projects hold high priority to him.
He issued a stern warning.
“I will ensure that the company successfully starts and finishes work on the hall project. To those who plan to destabilise the project, I warn you, not this time, not under my watch.”
