The vehicle that was allegedly involved in the accident that killed Juliana Beatrice Williams.

The community of Delro Village next to Hindle Road says the death of a young mother that was killed after being knocked over by a security vehicle on the corner of Hindle and Bardale Road on Saturday could have been avoided.

Juliana Beatrice Williams (42) was killed on the same evening that the community had a meeting with a local ward councillor about traffic calming measures.

According to Bertram Alexander, a resident from Delro Village, the community met councillor Mzameki Sunzi on Saturday afternoon at 17:00.

“We were again told that Delro Village is being privately owned and that the City of Cape Town cannot provide services. The City collects rates and taxes, but cannot help us, but now someone died because they cannot find the developer,” says Alexander.

According to Alexander the community has been complaining since 2012.

Qwen Williams, Williams’ only son, says the family has been traumatised by what happened.

“We are struggling to come to terms with what happened. My two sisters and I are devastated. We are still trying to get our heads around what happened,” says Qwen.

He says he believes that speed bumps and more lights in the community will definitely help people cross the road safely.

Cornelia Williams, William’s grieving mother, says her daughter was trying to cross the road when the driver of the vehicle came speeding down the road.

“He was driving faster than what is allowed on that road. After he hit her the driver, who works for a security company, ran away. I am not sure if they caught him, but he took my daughter’s life,” she says.

TygerBurger tried to get comment from Sunzi and will ad it in follow-up articles.

Warrant Officer November Filander, police spokesperson, says an investigation into the incident is under way.

“We can confirm that the victim was declared dead on the scene. A case of culpable homicide has been opened,” says Filander.
