Parow police have again issued a warning against cases of fraud taking place in the precinct.
Capt Kevin Williams, police spokesperson, says the police are currently experiencing a steep increase in online fraud particularly.
“More and more residents in Parow are reporting online fraud pertaining to buying items online,” he says.
He says the types of activities they encounter include buying of cars, dogs, bitcoin investments, buying supplements online and buying or letting of houses.
Williams says schemes requesting personal information via cellphones and competitions taking place online which request payments before monies are paid out, are also amongst these cases.
People are warned to rather do business face-to-face; to not share their banking details online with unknown persons; to receive the product first before making payment; to visit the possible residential property before making a first payment when buying a house; to not buy vehicles over the internet but rather at a registered car dealership; and to stop online fraud by only buying from a registered dealer.
