At least one alleged rapist was arrested after a private armed response officer reacted to a horrible incident in School Street on Friday 8 April.
Brackenfell-based security company Titanium Securitas posted on their Facebook page that one of their response officers’ vehicle was flagged down at around 19:50 during a routine patrol in Kuils River.
The officer was told that it appeared a girl was being sexually assaulted by four men under the bridge in School Street.
“The response officer immediately made his way to the location while calling for backup from our additional armed response vehicles in the area.
“Thanks to the quick response from our team, one suspect was caught and immediately detained.
“He admitted to being involved and also identified the other suspects that were involved.
“He was handed over to Kuils River police after being positively identified by the victim,” reads the post.
According to Titanium their response team continued to search for the other suspects.
They soon found two of the remaining three suspects a few streets away.
Both were detained and handed over to the police.
Titanium’s information from the scene is that the victim and a friend were walking when the men attempted to rob them.
“The friend manage to escape after which the suspects proceeded to allegedly rape the victim.
“Three of the four suspects were caught and handed over to Kuils River police for further investigation into the matter.”
Lt Col Karen Vorsatz, acting station commander of Kuils River police, said in response to TygerBurger’s enquiry a rape case was registered at the local police.
“The incident occurred around 19:30 on Friday evening.”
Vorsatz only acknowledged the arrest of one 29-year-old man who appeared in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court on Monday 11 April on a charge of rape.
She said the victim is 17 years old.
